more gear/swans
crim-related event of the day:
fedex delivered my third mellotron rack unit.
i need three of everything i use in performance: one set for gig use,
one set for back-up, one for home use. live, i use a weighted
piano keyboard for acoustic-type sounds, a synth, a mellotron module,
and a cheap effects unit. it adds up, but it’s the price of doing business.
things will break - it’s what things do. and, you never want to be caught with
your pants down on stage. or in other places. especially other places.
.
i’m glad to see a mention of Swans on the DGM Forum page. in my experience,
Swans have more in common with KC than most bands i know and/or have
worked with. as a matter of course, Michael Gira considers music a spiritual
act and a vehicle for transformation, even though the methods might be seen as opposite.
i would even say that Swans improvise more than KC (gauntlet anyone?).
notable is a 1989 Swans gig i attended in Santa Clara, CA. it’s one of the few
times i can say i had an objective experience at a music event.
by ‘objective,' i mean a singular experience shared in specific detail by three other people.
something like having the same dream at the same time.
only the opposite: we all awoke to something at the same time.
